Wellman Oil Company, Inc. was founded by P.W. Wellman in June of 1930. At the time, Wellman Oil Company was known as a Gulf Oil distributor and provided fuel oil and diesel fuel services. Later, P.W. Wellman sold the company to Jim Hubbard and Lewis Tappen in May of 1961. In June of 1976, William Owen and Sophia D. Owen purchased Wellman Oil Company from Mr. Jim Hubbard and Mr. Lewis Tappen. Sophia D. Owen had the pleasure of working for P.W. Wellman, Jim Hubbard, and Lewis Tappen. The company is still owned and operated by the Owen family, with Greg Owen serving as President today.

Wellman Oil Company is a third-generation family owned and operated company. Greg is a second-generation family-owner and his brother, William Owen, Jr. serves as the Vice President of the company.

In 1985, Wellman Oil Company entered in the convenience store industry as Easy-O-Mart with two store locations in Clinton, North Carolina. In 1996, Greg opened his first convenience store, Express Market #1 located in Holly Ridge, North Carolina. Since, Greg and his wife, Melinda Owen own and operate five BP-branded convenience store locations. In 1996, Greg ventured in the liquid propane (LP) industry and had several goals to help continue grow the company. The company provided their customers with home-heating, agricultural and commercial services. At Wellman Oil Company, we continue to service our customers of Sampson County and surrounding areas, in the residential, commercial, and agricultural markets.
